Late, abominably, incorrigibly late

I will not leave months between posts. I will not leave months between posts. I will not leave months between posts. x100

I do have some excuse: I’m trying to settle into a new city, to find schools, flats, jobs… and it’s all coming together, slowly. I think.

London is wonderful. The energy of the place is tremendous. It really hits you when you haven’t been there for a while – like New York or Tokyo, it never sleeps. And oddly enough, I feel less inclined to sleep myself. There’s a buzz in the air. You can get Polish latke-style potato pancakes at the local cafe. What could be better?

OK, latkes and a flat white.

  1. Londin? I thought you were going to France…? Oh, we’ll, glad you like it. And I’ll email you my mother’s recipe for latkes – very simple to make, why go to a cafe for them?:-) I come home from a long day at work, too tired to cook anything elaborate, or sometimes just a craving, and I whip them up in no time, with just a bt more effort than regular pancakes and that much only if you grate by hand instead of in the food processor.

More jobs in London. At least, so far!

The fact of getting latkes in the cafe just tickled me. Twenty years ago this would have been unheard of. The cafe was run by Poles, they had gulash and the works.

I feel that “trying to settle into a new city, to find schools, flats, jobs…” etc is a pretty worthy excuse in most peoples’ books.

That London energy sounds fabulous to me, I must admit, especially when trying to stay upbeat in eq ChCh–was going to say “post-eq” but we had a wee flurry of sahkes over this past half week: just mid 3’s to 4’s but still… Nontheless, it *is* spring and that’s definitely something. 🙂

Well you’ve trumped us with that – it’s definitely autumn here! But can’t complain, had a lovely hot summer and am now quite enjoying the wet leaf smell.

Take care of yourself in those shaky isles.
