Helen Lowe talks epic fantasy

I have to link to this series of posts on Helen Lowe’s blog, because she’s asking some fantastic questions and generating a great discussion! Basically the issue is: do you think war is an integral part of epic fantasy? Ie, in stories that have that ‘epic’ feel to them, where whole societies change over the course of the tale, do you think war is an inevitable consequence or corollary to the action?

My feeling is, no. But the discussion is interesting and worth a peek.

…And just as an aside, if you read Helen’s blog from this morning, you might find out some rather wonderful news about ‘Tymon’s Flight’ which I haven’t yet announced here. Ahem. 🙂

*Jumps up and down!* I guess I could announce it, seeing as Helen has. I was waiting for the full list to appear on the SFFANZ site.

Hey Mary–thanks for linking. The whole epic fantasy discussion started quite spontaneously last Saturday but it doesn’t seem to want to let me go.:)

Congratulations again on Tymon’s Flight by the way, and the Best New Talent nomination—I know I’ve already said, “well deserved” but hey, I can say it again if I want to!

Thank you Helen! You can say it as many times as you like, I’ll be thrilled. 😉

You’re on a roll with the blog posts. I say go with it!
