Buy a NZ book day

I almost forgot – March 5th is Buy a NZ Book Day!

Make it a SFF title and rock our little kiwi hearts… If you need some ideas, here are a few names to look out for: Karen Healey, Helen Lowe, Philippa Ballantine,ย Mary Victoria, Russell Kirkpatrick, Nalini Singh, Elizabeth Knox… as well as great collaborative titles like White Cloud Worlds, A Foreign Country…

    Going shopping right now!!!

  2. Bahiyyih says:

Wish I could buy NZ books in France. Perhaps there IS something to be said for globalization, after all…

    • MaryV says:

You know, you can. You can buy digital editions such as e-books or Amazon Kindle editions.

One day, I aim to have books available in France… one day.

  3. Helen Lowe says:

Well, “The Heir of Night” will be available in France later in the year, as Calmann Levy are going to translate it–obviously publishers of taste and discernment, ay!–but there are so many great NZ SpecFic books that have come out in the past year. You already know I’m a fan of “Samiha’s Song”, Mary, but I’d also like to add (in addition to your list):

#The Seer of Sevenwaters by Juliet Marillier
    # A Different Hunger by Lila Richards
    # Ebony Hill by Anna McKenzie
    # Fierce September by Fleur Beale

And from slightly earlier, just because I think they’re both great reads:

    # The Loblolly Boy by James Norcliffe
    # Voyager Science Fiction Poetry from New Zealand, ed. Mark Pirie & Tim Jones

    • MaryV says:

Hey, I didn’t realise Juliet Marillier was a NZ writer! That’s wonderful, I’ve heard such good things about her work.

Great news about the French translation of “Heir”… I hope to hear similar news one of these days. That way I could justify a visit to my family as a ‘business trip’ for tax purposes. ๐Ÿ˜‰
